"Madam President, I supported the mutual recognition of protection measures in civil matters because, together with the adoption of the European Protection Order, it will strengthen the protection of victims of crimes and violence in the EU. Women, children and all those who suffer from domestic violence, stalking and harassment in Europe will be able to receive the same protection that they receive in their own Member State if they move to another one, with simplified procedures and without waiting to go through another court procedure. Mutual recognition in civil matters will help the judiciary and the police not only to protect victims better but also to prevent cross-border and mobile crime. I think today we can reassure many of the victims who live in fear that they will finally be able to move freely through the Member States. In adopting this directive we are taking a significant step forward in creating an area of freedom and security in Europe."@sv2
