"Mr President, the international community has taken its eye off the ball in relation to the ongoing crisis in Gaza. It has been distracted by other Middle East events such as the war in Lebanon, Iraq and Iran. We must all renew our efforts to find and encourage a peace process in Gaza. Compromises have to be made by both the Palestinians and the Israelis to end the conflict, which is destroying so many lives on both sides.
I welcome efforts from Hamas and Fatah to form a unity government in an effort to end the international embargo on Palestine. I urge Hamas, under the new Administration, to recognise Israel or accept a viable two-state solution to the Middle East conflict, which I believe is the only way forward.
I condemn the rocket fire by Palestinian militants from Gaza this morning, which killed an elderly woman and wounded another person in the Israeli town of Sderot. I also condemn the deaths of the 18 civilians in the shelling of Beit Hanoun by the Israeli defence forces last week. But an eye for an eye leaves everyone blind.
While I recognise that Israel has the right to defend itself against attack, many of us saw the documentary on Gaza yesterday and listened to our colleagues who had recently visited the region. I was shocked by what I heard and saw: the sheer brutality that has been inflicted on Palestinian civilians. Both sides have to realise that the only solution is to sit down and talk. Dialogue is the only way forward. Courageous leadership is needed on both sides. We are only too aware in Ireland of the cycle of violence caused by such conflicts. We also know only too well the enormous benefits that can accrue to everyone when violence ends and real negotiation and dialogue take place.
We must all strive to build confidence. The EU has increased assistance to the Palestinian people this year and has called for the immediate payment by Israel of withheld tax and customs revenue. It also continues to seek the release of the captured Israeli soldier and of Palestinian legislators detained in Israel, as well as the reopening of the Gaza crossing points.

"Hr. formand! Det internationale samfund har glemt at holde øjnene på bolden i forbindelsen med den igangværende krise i Gaza. Det er blevet distraheret af andre begivenheder i Mellemøsten såsom krigen i Libanon, Irak og Iran. Vi må alle forny vores indsats for at finde og fremme en fredsproces i Gaza. Såvel palæstinensere som israelere er nødt til at acceptere kompromiser for at få afsluttet konflikten, som ødelægger så mange liv på begge sider.
Jeg glæder mig over Hamas' og Fatahs indsats for at danne en samlingsregering i et forsøg på at bringe den internationale embargo mod Palæstina til ophør. Jeg opfordrer indtrængende Hamas under den nye ledelse til at anerkende Israel eller acceptere en levedygtig tostatsløsning på konflikten i Mellemøsten. Det tror jeg er den eneste vej frem.

Herr Präsident! Die internationale Gemeinschaft hat die anhaltende Krise im Gazastreifen aus den Augen verloren. Sie wurde von anderen Ereignissen im Nahen und Mittleren Osten wie dem Krieg im Libanon, Irak und Iran abgelenkt. Wir müssen uns alle wieder verstärkt darum bemühen, einen Friedensprozess im Gazastreifen auf den Weg zu bringen und zu unterstützen. Um diesen Konflikt zu beenden, der das Leben so vieler Menschen auf beiden Seiten zerstört, müssen sowohl die Palästinenser als auch die Israelis Kompromisse eingehen.
Ich begrüße die Anstrengungen seitens der Hamas und der Fatah, eine Regierung der nationalen Einheit zu bilden, damit das internationale Embargo gegen Palästina aufgehoben wird. Ich fordere die Hamas eindringlich auf, im Rahmen dieser neuen Regierung den Staat Israel anzuerkennen bzw. eine tragfähige Zwei-Staaten-Lösung für den Nahostkonflikt zu akzeptieren, die meines Erachtens den einzigen Ausweg darstellt.
Ich verurteile den Raketenangriff, der heute Vormittag von militanten Palästinensern aus dem Gazastreifen auf die israelische Stadt Sderot verübt wurde, wodurch eine ältere Frau getötet und eine andere Person verwundet wurde. Des Weiteren verurteile ich den Bombenangriff der israelischen Armee auf die Stadt Beit Hanoun, bei dem in der vergangenen Woche 18 Zivilisten ums Leben kamen. Wenn man nach dem Motto „Auge um Auge“ verfährt, dann wird am Ende die ganze Welt blind sein.
Ich möchte Israel keineswegs das Recht absprechen, sich gegen Angriffe zu verteidigen. Viele von uns haben jedoch gestern den Dokumentarfilm über den Gazastreifen gesehen und die Berichte unserer Kollegen gehört, die diese Region gerade erst besucht hatten. Und ich muss sagen, ich war wirklich schockiert von dem, was wir zu hören und zu sehen bekamen: die schiere Brutalität, mit der gegen die palästinensische Zivilbevölkerung vorgegangen wird. Beide Seiten müssen endlich einsehen, dass die einzige Lösung darin besteht, sich zu einem Dialog zusammenzusetzen. Ein solcher Dialog ist der einzige Ausweg. Auf beiden Seiten ist entschlossene Führungskraft vonnöten. Wir Iren kennen den Teufelskreis der Gewalt nur zu gut, der durch derartige Konflikte ausgelöst wird. Aber wir wissen auch um die gewaltigen Vorteile, die für alle entstehen, wenn die Gewalt aufhört und echte Verhandlungen und ein echter Dialog stattfinden.
Wir müssen uns alle darum bemühen, Vertrauen aufzubauen. Die EU hat in diesem Jahr ihre Hilfsgelder für die palästinensische Bevölkerung aufgestockt und Israel aufgefordert, die einbehaltenen Steuer- und Zolleinnahmen sofort freizugeben. Zudem setzt sich die EU weiterhin für die Freilassung des gefangenen israelischen Soldaten und der in Israel festgehaltenen palästinensischen Abgeordneten sowie für die Öffnung der Grenzübergänge im Gazastreifen ein.
Die EU hat die Pflicht, das Leben der Zivilbevölkerung zu schützen. Derzeit befindet sich die Union in einer besseren Position, um als ehrliche Maklerin aufzutreten, als Großbritannien oder die USA. Jeder vernünftige Mensch muss jetzt seine Stimme erheben und gegen diese Situation ankämpfen. Wenn wir nichts tun, wird das Böse weiterhin die Oberhand behalten."@de9
"Κύριε Πρόεδρε, η διεθνής κοινότητα ξεκόλλησε το βλέμμα της από την μπάλα σε σχέση με τη συνεχιζόμενη κρίση στη Γάζα. Η προσοχή της αποσπάστηκε από άλλα γεγονότα στη Μέση Ανατολή, όπως ο πόλεμος στον Λίβανο, στο Ιράκ και το Ιράν. Πρέπει όλοι να ανανεώσουμε τις προσπάθειές μας για να βρούμε και να ενθαρρύνουμε μια ειρηνευτική διαδικασία στη Γάζα. Πρέπει να γίνουν συμβιβασμοί τόσο από τους Παλαιστίνιους όσο και από τους Ισραηλινούς για να τερματιστεί αυτή η σύγκρουση, που καταστρέφει τόσες πολλές ζωές και από τις δύο πλευρές.
Χαιρετίζω τις προσπάθειες της Χαμάς και της Φατάχ να σχηματίσουν μια κυβέρνηση ενότητας σε μια προσπάθεια να τερματιστεί το διεθνές εμπάργκο επί της Παλαιστίνης. Καλώ τη Χαμάς, υπό τη νέα διοίκηση, να αναγνωρίσει το Ισραήλ ή να δεχτεί μια βιώσιμη λύση δύο κρατών στη σύγκρουση της Μέσης Ανατολής, η οποία πιστεύω ότι είναι ο μοναδικός δρόμος για να βγούμε από το αδιέξοδο.
Καταδικάζω την επίθεση με πυραύλους που εξαπέλυσαν παλαιστίνιοι μαχητές σήμερα το πρωί, κατά την οποία σκοτώθηκε μια ηλικιωμένη γυναίκα και τραυματίστηκε άλλο ένα άτομο στην ισραηλινή πόλη Sderot. Καταδικάζω επίσης τους θανάτους των 18 αμάχων στον βομβαρδισμό της Beit Hanoun από τις ισραηλινές αμυντικές δυνάμεις την περασμένη εβδομάδα. Όμως, η τακτική του «οφθαλμόν αντί οφθαλμού» αφήνει τους πάντες τυφλούς.
Ενώ αναγνωρίζω ότι το Ισραήλ έχει δικαίωμα να αμύνεται ενάντια στις επιθέσεις, πολλοί από εμάς είδαν χθες το ντοκιμαντέρ για τη Γάζα και άκουσαν τους συναδέλφους μας που επισκέφτηκαν πρόσφατα την περιοχή. Συγκλονίστηκα από τα όσα άκουσα και είδα: την άγρια ωμότητα εναντίον των παλαιστίνιων αμάχων. Και οι δύο πλευρές πρέπει να συνειδητοποιήσουν ότι η μόνη λύση είναι να καθίσουν και να μιλήσουν. Ο διάλογος είναι η μόνη λύση για να βγούμε από το αδιέξοδο. Χρειάζεται θαρραλέα ηγεσία και από τις δύο πλευρές. Εμείς, στην Ιρλανδία, γνωρίζουμε πολύ καλά τον φαύλο κύκλο της βίας που γεννούν τέτοιου είδους συγκρούσεις. Γνωρίζουμε επίσης πολύ καλά τα τεράστια οφέλη που μπορούν να προκύψουν για όλους με τον τερματισμό της βίας και τη διεξαγωγή αληθινών διαπραγματεύσεων και διαλόγου.
Πρέπει όλοι να αγωνιστούμε για την οικοδόμηση εμπιστοσύνης. Η ΕΕ αύξησε τη βοήθεια προς τον παλαιστινιακό λαό φέτος και απηύθυνε έκκληση για την άμεση καταβολή από το Ισραήλ των φορολογικών και δασμολογικών εσόδων που έχει παρακρατήσει. Εξακολουθεί επίσης να ζητά την απελευθέρωση του αιχμάλωτου ισραηλινού στρατιώτη και των παλαιστίνιων νομοθετών που κρατούνται στο Ισραήλ, καθώς και το άνοιγμα των σημείων συνοριακής διέλευσης στη Γάζα.

Señor Presidente, la comunidad internacional ha dejado de prestar atención a la crisis que está teniendo lugar en Gaza. Se ha dejado distraer por otros acontecimientos de Oriente Próximo, como la guerra en el Líbano, Iraq e Irán. Todos tenemos que renovar nuestros esfuerzos por encontrar y alentar un proceso de paz en Gaza. Tanto palestinos como israelíes tienen que adquirir compromisos para poner fin a un conflicto que se está cobrando tantas vidas en las dos partes.
Celebro los esfuerzos de Hamás y Al Fatah por formar un Gobierno de unidad y poner fin al embargo internacional sobre Palestina. Pido a Hamás que con el nuevo Gobierno reconozca a Israel o acepte una solución factible de dos Estados para el conflicto de Oriente Próximo, que yo creo que es la única vía posible.
Condeno el ataque con cohetes perpetrado por militares palestinos desde Gaza esta mañana, en el que ha muerto una mujer de edad avanzada y resultado herida otra persona en la ciudad israelí de Sderot. Condeno también la muerte de 18 civiles en el bombardeo de Beit Hanun por las Fuerzas de Defensa de Israel la semana pasada. Cuando se aplica la ley del ojo por ojo, todos se quedan ciegos.
Aunque reconozco que Israel tiene derecho a defenderse de los ataques, muchos de nosotros vimos ayer el documental sobre Gaza y escuchamos a nuestros colegas que habían visitado recientemente la región. Sabemos también demasiado bien cuáles son los enormes beneficios que todos podrían obtener si se pusiera fin a la violencia y hubiera una negociación y un diálogo verdaderos.
Todos tenemos que tratar de generar confianza. La UE ha aumentado la ayuda a los palestinos este año y ha solicitado a Israel el pago inmediato de los ingresos fiscales y arancelarios retenidos. Además, sigue tratando de conseguir la liberación del soldado israelí capturado y de los legisladores palestinos detenidos en Israel, así como la reapertura de los puestos fronterizos de Gaza.
La UE tiene la obligación de proteger las vidas de los civiles. En este momento se encuentra en una posición más fuerte que Gran Bretaña o los Estados Unidos para actuar como intermediario neutral. Personas razonables tienen que intervenir y hacer algo ante lo que está sucediendo. El mal seguirá prevaleciendo si no hacemos nada."@es20

Arvoisa puhemies, kansainvälisen yhteisön keskittyminen on herpaantunut Gazan kriisin suhteen. Muut Lähi-idän tapahtumat, kuten sota Libanonissa, Irakissa ja Iranissa, ovat häirinneet sitä. Meidän on ryhdyttävä uudelleen toimiin Gazan rauhanprosessin käynnistämiseksi ja edistämiseksi. Monsieur le Président, la communauté internationale n’a pas suivi les événements liés à la crise en cours à Gaza. Elle a été distraite par d’autres événements au Moyen-Orient, tels la guerre au Liban, en Irak et en Iran. Nous devons tous reprendre nos efforts afin d’enclencher et d’encourager un processus de paix à Gaza. Des compromis doivent être faits par les Palestiniens et les Israéliens afin de mettre un terme à un conflit qui détruit tant de vies des deux côtés.
Je salue les efforts mis en œuvre par le Hamas et le Fatah afin de former un gouvernement d’unité et de mettre ainsi fin à l’embargo international sur la Palestine. J’appelle le Hamas, au sein de la nouvelle administration, à reconnaître Israël ou à accepter une solution viable à deux États au conflit du Moyen-Orient, ce qui me paraît être la seule issue.
Je condamne le tir de roquettes effectué ce matin à Gaza par des militants palestiniens, lequel a tué une femme âgée et blessé une autre personne dans la ville israélienne de Sderot. Je condamne par ailleurs la mort de ces 18 civils lors du bombardement de Beit Hanoun par les forces de défense israéliennes la semaine dernière. Le principe «œil pour œil» ne laisse que des aveugles.
Si je reconnais à Israël le droit de se défendre contre des attaques, nombre d’entre nous ont vu le documentaire sur Gaza hier et ont écouté nos collègues ayant récemment visité la région. J’ai été choqué par ce que j’ai vu et entendu: la brutalité pure infligée aux civils palestiniens. Les deux parties doivent comprendre que la seule solution consiste à s’asseoir à la table des négociations. Le dialogue est la seule issue. Le courage des dirigeants est nécessaire de part et d’autre. Nous, Irlandais, ne connaissons que trop bien le cycle de violence provoqué par ces conflits. Nous ne connaissons que trop bien également les avantages considérables dont chacun peut bénéficier lorsque la violence prend fin et que des négociations et un dialogue véritables se mettent en place.
Nous devons tous tendre vers l’instauration de la confiance. L’Union européenne a augmenté son assistance au peuple palestinien cette année et a réclamé le versement immédiat, par Israël, des recettes fiscales et douanières retenues. "Herr talman! Världssamfundets intresse för den pågående krisen i Gaza har avtagit. Man har distraherats av andra händelser i Mellanöstern som kriget i Libanon, Irak och Iran. Vi måste alla förnya våra ansträngningar i att finna och uppmuntra till en fredsprocess i Gaza. Såväl palestinierna som israelerna måste kompromissa och israelerna måste avsluta konflikten som förintar så många liv på båda sidor.
