En het is inderdaad zo dat wij door deze ene munteenheid met name een groter eenheidsgevoel onder Europeanen hebben gecreëerd dan met alle andere acties die wij samen ondernomen hebben. Jag håller med kommissionsledamoten om att euron har medfört såväl öppenhet och insyn i prissättningen som ett förenklat resande, och framför allt har en gemensam valuta mer än något annat som vi har uträttat tillsammans bidragit till att sammanhållningen bland EU-medborgarna har ökat. Allt detta är positivt. Jag har förstått att den europeiska ekonomin tycks vara på väg mot en avkylning men att den fortfarande väntas växa med 2,5 procent 2006, vilket är den största tillväxten sedan 2000.
