En sådan tendens er særdeles skadelig for Ruslands ry som formandsland for Europarådet. Det skaber også tvivl om vores fælles værdier. Derfor vil jeg gerne bede formandskabet for Det Europæiske Råd om at tage spørgsmålet op på det kommende topmøde i Lahti.

Nur wenn die EU ganz klar signalisiert, dass wir das Leben dieser couragierten Frau nicht weniger schätzen als Erdöl und Erdgas, wird sich in Russland allmählich etwas ändern.

"Κυρία Πρόεδρε, πιστεύω ότι ο καλύτερος τρόπος για να τιμήσει κανείς το έργο της Anna Politkovskaya είναι να διαβάσει το βιβλίο της

Πρέπει να έχουμε επίγνωση ότι ο συστηματικός εκφοβισμός, η παρενόχληση και η δολοφονία ανεξάρτητων δημοσιογράφων, καθώς και η έλλειψη αποτελεσμάτων από τις έρευνες, έχουν δημιουργήσει ένα κλίμα ατιμωρησίας στο οποίο οι δολοφόνοι φαίνεται ότι δεν φοβούνται τον νόμο. Μια τέτοια τάση πλήττει σοβαρά τη φήμη της Ρωσίας ως χώρα που κατέχει σήμερα την Προεδρία του Συμβουλίου της Ευρώπης. Ενσπείρει επίσης αμφιβολίες στις κοινές μας αξίες. Debemos tener presente que la intimidación sistemática, el hostigamiento y el asesinato de periodistas independientes, así como la ausencia de resultados en todas las investigaciones, han creado un clima de impunidad en el que parece que los asesinos no temen a la ley. Esta tendencia está dañando seriamente la reputación de Rusia, un Estado que ostenta la Presidencia del Consejo de Europa. También proyecta dudas sobre nuestros valores comunes. Nous devons être conscients que l’intimidation, le harcèlement et le meurtre systématiques de journalistes indépendants, ainsi que l’absence de tout résultat d’enquête, ont créé un climat d’impunité dans lequel les tueurs semblent ne pas craindre la loi. Cette tendance est gravement nuisible à la réputation de la Russie en tant qu’État présidant le Conseil de l’Europe. Elle fait aussi peser un doute sur nos valeurs communes. C’est pourquoi je voudrais demander à la présidence du Conseil de l’UE de soulever cette question au prochain sommet de Lahti.

We moeten ons ervan bewust zijn dat de systematische intimidatie van en aanvallen en moordaanslagen op onafhankelijke journalisten een klimaat van straffeloosheid hebben geschapen waarin moordenaars geen angst lijken te kennen voor de wet. Die ontwikkeling doet ernstig afbreuk aan de reputatie van Rusland als voorzitter van de Raad van Europa en doet twijfels rijzen over onze gemeenschappelijke waarden. Ik verzoek het voorzitterschap van de Europese Raad daarom deze kwestie aan de orde te stellen op de komende Top in Lahti.
De Fractie van de Europese Volkspartij (Christen-democraten) en Europese Democraten roept de Commissie en de EU-lidstaten tevens op een principieel standpunt in te nemen en aan te dringen op herstel van de persvrijheid en respect voor onafhankelijke journalisten. Dit zijn twee van de belangrijkste voorwaarden voor de vernieuwing volgend jaar van de partnerschaps- en samenwerkingsovereenkomst met dit land. Pas als de EU het duidelijke signaal afgeeft dat ze aan het leven van deze vrouw niet minder waarde hecht dan aan olie en gas, zullen er dingen veranderen in Rusland.

Vi måste vara medvetna om att systematiska hot, trakasserier mot och mord på oberoende journalister liksom den totala bristen på resultat från utredningar har skapat ett klimat av straffrihet där mördare inte verkar rädas lagen. En sådan trend skadar allvarligt Rysslands rykte som ordförandeland i Europarådet. Det ger också upphov till tvivel om våra gemensamma värden. Jag skulle därför vilja be rådets ordförandeskap att ta upp den frågan vid det kommande toppmötet i Lahtis.
PPE-DE–gruppen uppmanar också kommissionen och EU:s medlemsstater att inta en principiell ståndpunkt och kräva att pressfriheten och respekten för oberoende journalister återupprättas, såsom en nödvändig förutsättning för en förnyelse av avtalet om partnerskap och samarbete nästa år. Inte förrän EU skickar en tydlig signal om att vi värderar denna modiga kvinnas liv lika högt som olja och gas kommer saker och ting att börja förändras i Ryssland.
Det enda sättet att verkligen hedra Anna Politkovskajas passionerade engagemang för sanning, rättvisa och mänsklig värdighet är att inleda en gemensam satsning för att förverkliga hennes dröm om ett demokratiskt Ryssland där medborgare inte behöver betala med sina liv när de berättar sanningen."@sv21
