Contrairement à une majorité de parlementaires européens, je ne peux pas regretter l’échec de Silvio Berlusconi et du Conseil sur la CIG et le projet de Constitution européenne. Bien que les raisons de cet échec ne soient pas les mêmes que celles pour lesquelles j’aurais personnellement rejeté le projet présenté par Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, je pense que la crise actuelle ne peut être que salutaire. J’espère qu’elle fera prendre conscience qu’il faut à l’Europe un nouveau projet et un nouveau souffle citoyen et social pour une autre Europe."@fr6

Contrary to a majority of MEPs, I cannot regret the failure of Mr Berlusconi and the Council regarding the IGC and the draft European Constitution. Although the reasons why they failed are not the same as the reasons why I personally would have rejected the draft presented by Mr Giscard d'Estaing, I believe that the current crisis can only be beneficial. I hope that it will make people aware that Europe needs a new draft and new social inspiration from the citizens for a different Europe."@en3

In tegenstelling tot de meeste leden van het Europees Parlement kan ik de nederlaag van Silvio Berlusconi en het mislukken van de Raad over de IGC en de Europese ontwerp-Grondwet niet betreuren. I motsats till en majoritet av parlamentets ledamöter, kan jag inte beklaga Silvio Berlusconis och rådets misslyckande rörande regeringskonferensen och utkastet till en konstitution för Europa. Även om anledningarna till deras misslyckande inte överensstämmer med mina anledningar att förkasta det utkast som lades fram av Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, anser jag att den nuvarande krisen enbart är nyttig.
